Neon is the new outrageous.

Hello my darlings!

This is Blog Version 1.0, and as such you can expect a lot of changes as I sort it out. But I really wanted to start so here it is! Yay! I just know we're going to have a lot of fun together.

I believe in starting things on a positive note, and so I wanted my first post to be about a recent personal victory, which is getting an outfit from my cybergoth line, Saccharine Dreadful, in our local paper! I know it's just a small article about a relevant fashion trend, but still, not too shabby for an emerging alternative designer.

I got a call from Anna, the fashion editor for The Advertiser, just over a week and a half ago saying she was running a story about the trend of fluorescent colours in swimwear, but wanted to put a spin on it, the spin being me and my wackiness. Turns out she'd seen my collection at Riot Project on the 27th of November and I'd made an impression. She thought that shooting fluorescent clubwear at the beach was just crazy enough to be amazing. I agreed wholeheartedly with this idea, and we went from there.

For those of you who didn't get a chance to go to Riot Project, here's a video done by Jason Minge, videographer extraordinaire, be sure to 'Like' his Facebook page! My section is at 2.50. A full version with the actual music etc will be coming soon, and I'll put links of it up when it is. An album was also put up by Jason Vanderpeer of Seemingly Sane Photography, which shows the garments really well, 'Like' him too if you haven't already. Just excuse my stupid "Woohoo!" pose at the beginning!

So last Thursday at sunset we met at Henley Beach and did the shoot. I had a great time shooting with Dean Martin, he was a fantastic photographer, and I enjoyed talking more with Anna too. My model was Nexus Effected, one of the most beautiful, stupidly talented girls in the whole world, and also my beloved wifey. Her boyfriend came along too and was great company, even if he does has a habit of trying to break my ribs! Nexus also has a phobia of fish and the ocean, so the fact that she spent the better part of an hour or two frolicking in the waves so we could get the shots we wanted meant a lot to me! It helped that I promised to make her a shiny latex outfit once I start production of my new collection, but shhhhhh, more about that later.

Later that night when I got home I was on such a high, I spent ages designing and pondering on the strange magic of seeing a cyber goddess emerging from the sea. It was so otherworldly and beautiful, as if she had somehow managed to reconcile all that was harsh and artificial with the natural state that we all come from. So moving, I could go on about the fragile perfection of some of those moments forever.

This is the final image that ended up on the Adelaide Now website, the one in the paper was just Nexus looking amazing, but I like this one of us together a lot too:
Aren't we pretty? And yes, we were both standing in the sea in our stockings with no shoes on, freezing our little toes off! So worth it though, even though my boots still haven't recovered from all the sand that ended up inside them. It was an amazing experience, and one that really helped to remind me why I'm doing what I'm doing. It's been a rough couple of months for me, but when I get a chance to do things like this it's like I remember who I really am.

That's all for now folks, off to bed to dream of UV reactive mermaids. Wouldn't that be a sight?

All my love,
Saccharine <3
